Today, Gap announced their latest campaign for the holiday season starring Grammy nominated recording artist, Janelle Monáe. Monáe is featured alongside a cast of six choirs, spanning various genres and comprised of individuals from different backgrounds to celebrate the festive season and promote a theme of “togetherness”.
The campaign video captures Monáe harmonizing with the singers for an a capella rendition of Freddie Scott’s “(You) Got What I Need” – a cheerful tune to encourage families to spend quality time together this season and enjoy the little things that unite us. Directed by Paul Hunter, the video embraces the magic of the holidays in true Gap fashion, with the entire cast outfitted in the brand’s classic, colorful stripes styled with cozy knits and seasonal staples.
“When we come together, we can create something magical.”
“The Gap has been a part of my life since I was a little girl, so it was very exciting to be involved,” said Monáe. “I love the ‘Meet Me in the Gap’ concept. It really reflects the idea that although we may be from different parts of the world, when we come together, we can create something magical.”
Craig Brommers, chief marketing officer of Gap shared with Forbes via email, “We knew that Janelle would not only bring her incredible voice, but also her undeniable energy and enthusiasm which we feel really made this campaign so special. It really will give you goosebumps.” He continued, “As a brand, holiday has always been a memorable and emotional moment for Gap, marked by crazy stripes and togetherness. This holiday season, we offer an invitation to families from all over the world to get together, spend real time with one another, and ultimately, meet in the Gap.”
